Indoor Urban Garden

Featured

Mid-Winter 2019 found me feeling kinda blue, because I missed having a garden. I missed living in the country, and I missed spending time in Nature. Friends in the Wise Kemetic Living Group encouraged me to start an indoor garden, and so I did! I ordered the seeds and the equipment online, and had hoped to start with the New Moon in March. But the seeds did not arrive in time, because I had to travel. I figured that I would start with the Spring Equinox, but alas, the seeds were not in the box! LOL!! The store kindly sent more seeds, however, they got lost in the mail. I finally got my seeds, and began with the Mee Kitchen Hydroponic System right away. I have been totally amazed with the results so far…

I ordered this little system because I thought it was cute, and was made sustainably with bamboo instead of cheap toxic plastic. I had not kid it was a total hydroponic system until I opened the box! I have been taking photos almost everyday, and there is always something new to behold. Usually, we miss out on this process, because the seeds are covered in dirt or wrapped in a paper towel inside a plastic bag.

It is really easy to use: it comes with nutrient packets, and you just mix with water in the reservoir. Change the water once a week.

Back from Kemet 2018

Before the Reflections from this adventure get underway, wanted to share what happened the minute I opened the door of my uber ride home from the airport on October 26.

This story actually begins the day I left fir Kemet October 14, when I realized that I had left the key to the front door inside my apartment instead of in the lockbox! I was supposed to leave the key for the Dog Sitter.

I wasn’t too worried because my daughter AND property manager also had keys and could easily leave in the lockbox. However, this did not happen. So by the time October 26 rolled around, Sybil had had enough of the backyard and escaped! Of course the neighbors were concerned because the dogs are taken care of very well. So what did they do? They called the police of course! Why not the property manager, whose phone number is POSTED ON THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING??? We will never know….

So the moment I step out of the car, one neighbor calls out to me from her window: “The Cops was at your building this morning. AND THEY TOOK YO DOGS” then-she was gone! I said Thank you. Of course my phone was dead. Fortunately the key to the backyard was in the lockbox so I went to the basement to charge my phone and call a locksmith.

While waiting for the locksmith, the landscape person for the apartment next door explained to me in very little English that 3 plain clothes cops and cars came by with a firetruck! Took the ladder to the third floor apartment, broke in and took the dogs! Yikes!

Once the locksmith got us inside, it was very obvious that the cops broke in for a wellness check. The door to the Wellness Center was busted open but nothing was moved or taken. They left on the lights in my apartment ( still not sure how they got in tho…) They left no written record of the wellness check or any info about the dogs. I was terrified….no I had not registered the dogs in Chicago yet.

We went to two police stations. This event was not mentioned anywhere in the system, with no information about Sybil and Ilu. Fortunately, an officer that had been on the scene was eavesdropping and told us the dogs were safe at a no-kill shelter.

We went to pick them up immediately.

They are now tagged chipped registered vaccinated and they caught the Dog Flu. They rode home from the shelter in a Mercedes Benz and we rode an uber to and from the vet where they got medicine for the Flu.

The next thing I did was to thank 2 of the neighbors and exchange phone numbers. In the future, we can communicate without calling the police! This experience actually made my street more friendly. I am looking out for the other 2 neighbors and look forward to getting to know them all better.

Too much excitement! Very little time to process the journey. Now that the doggies are safe and sound, will get started writing about the trip!

Makes me wonder because when I got home ftom Kemet the first time in 2011, was hit with a very long chain of adversities! But this time around, things are turning out in my favor!

ASHE!

Good Rising and Yes, Miracles happen everyday!

Yes, we still have possession and ownership of the building. Up to date on taxes! No rotten tenants at this time. In fact, ZERO Tenants except for us.

However, in case you did not already know, in March of 2016, there was a roof incident, and the entire building flooded. I am not going to go into all the details right here, yet. Check out this page, from WGN-TV.

Residents plagued by leaky roof, standing water in South Side apartment

In the video, you can hear my daughter in tears and distraught. We could not get any help from city or utiltiies, and when I tried to get help for the Tenants, THEY ALL TURNED ON US.

The WORST of the squatters called the news and the building inspector, while we were trying to get the Insurance adjuster to get things going! It was awful….they conveniently left out the most important facts that the Wind Storm caused the damages, and they had only been living that way for two weeks, they made it sound like the conditions had been that bad since December.

I will let you know, that things got so terrible, that I wrote a song called Tenant Burn. I botched up the lyrics in the recording: THEY WERE THREE MONTHS BEHIND IN RENT, NOT THREE WEEKS!!! LOL!!

All of this will make a fascinating movie someday….instead of Pacific Heights, we can call it Chatham Highs and Lows.

Today, however, I am writing to celebrate our Winter Solstice Miracle. Actually, we call our observance Indigenous Hanukkah, a tradition that is close to 30 years old in our family. That is yet another article waiting to be written. The Miracle of Indigenous Hannukkah 2017: THE BRAND NEW BOILER WAS TURNED ON DURING THE FIRST NITE OF OUR OBSERVANCE.  This might not sound like much of a big deal to you. But in 2014, the boiler that we had, pretty much died, and for the entire month of December, it was TURNED OFF FOR EXCRUTIATINGLY LENGTHY REPAIRS. That was a record cold winter, btw. We still had tenants, and yet no one turned us in. That was a miracle too! Unfortuantely, peoples gas sent me a bill for $2,500, which I refused to pay. Thus began a battle that lasted for almost two years, with them sending me a final bill for $13,000. Which I refused to pay. So, we have not really had a functioning boiler in well over a year…..no, I did  not pay that bill either.

Here are some photos from our Winter Solstice Miracle on South Ellis Ave.

Many Thanks to Neville’s Heating Services and Crew for an outstanding job. Neville Wood is from Jamaica, so you know we have a connection. AND, has been maintianing the boiler at my relatives’ property, also on the Southside, for over 20 years.

#webuyblack  #blackownedbusinesses must stick together!

And, on a side note, speaking of warmth, I spent my first night in ChiRaq in Chinatown, at the Jaslin Hotel (my current fav).  I went out for dinner at Lao Sze Chuan Restaurant in Chinatown. and decided to try something new called a HotPot. The wonderful waittress Renni tried to explain it to me, but I could not see how this was different than just getting a yummy dish of spicy string beans with tofu. This is what happened! LOL!!!

A HotPot is an experience, not just something you order from the menu. Even the lovely customer that took this photo, Flora, was so happy for me that I was trying this dish, she got very emotional, and we are now friends on Instagram.

Hotpot Special

Enjoy cooking right on your own table over 50 items to choose!

It was all you can eat, and Renni just kept on bringing out more and more vegetables.

I never used to like Chinese Food, becasue it was not spicy. On that night, I learned that Szechuan Cooking is VERY SPICY!!! WOW! Right up there with Thai Spicy if you know what I mean.

In February, Chicago will become my main residence, although I am on my way to becoming established as a Permanent Traveler. This will just be one of my many stops, because the World is My Home.

These days, I am having a very different experience of Chicago than I did when I was a yoing girl, or young woman. Of Course, that is because my perspective of life has changed and grown so very much, and also due to all the healing work that I have achieved. 2018 will definitely be a milestone along the path of The Chicago Redemption. Just like Heru, who represents the Redemption of The Soul.

Oneness.
