From First Base to Rape

In response to an article by Teresa Jusino:

What Aziz Ansari’s “Apology” Says About How Men View Their Encounters With Women

https://www.themarysue.com/aziz-ansari-apology/

This is a very interesting article, because it deals with first base that unfortunately some men take to mean home run. Even at my age and after all I have experienced, even saying “take it slow”, “I really like you, but lets wait til we get to know each other better”, “let’s go to couples counseling before going further,” things can still go too fast. Even if you say “not now”, the very thing you do not want, is what you get. Then you are stuck with trying to transform this violation into a relationship. But in reality, it was a violation. It will always feel like a violation. No matter how much you like the person, no matter how pleasurable, it was still against your wishes…. and can never give you a real relationship.

What do we as women have to do before our feelings wishes intentions are heard and respected? Obviously keeping women covered from head to toe does not make things better. Why does kissing, dancing, affection, a conversation, an energetic connection or attraction, a glass of wine or a beer, a glass of water, give a man the right to TAKE what could eventually be offered with love, integrity and consciousness? Why is this behavior accepted tolerated and yet not discussed? Why are people looking forward to movies where this scene is played out over and over but not addressed in society? Why are rapists in public office? Making movies? Running planetariums and talking about the Cosmos on television? Because we live in a #rapeculture . Because the average person is addicted to violence and enjoys the privilege of convenience that comes about due to the suffering of others. Because the average spiritually enslaved person is so jaded, so disconnected from Spirit that they are able to block out the pain of their global family members. Do we need to take a witness or a referee when we decide to be alone with a man?

Basically, we go against ourselves in that moment out of fear of what that boy will do if you actually punch him or kick him or just keep saying no. He could get angry, or stop talking to you altogether. If he is not hearing you, then maybe you go along with it so that he will stop HARASSING you, or might you get raped, or end up dead. Sometimes after reporting rape, especially if it was by a celebrity, it gets much worse and you end up dead at the hands of authorities trying to keep you silent like #MistyUpham. Or maybe you just accept a glass of water, with no interest in sex or affection, and because you have been rendered unconscious, are not even in a position where you can say, ” No way in hell do I want to have sex with you. You are ugly and gross. Do not touch me.”

I want you to see that it only takes one second to go from “Not Tonite” to DEAD ON ARRIVAL, because we cannot control men once the monster in them has been activated. This is what needs to change, from birth, we need to raise boys to be Actual Men, not predators. But these days, sexual predators control every aspect of the game in this rape culture. For Women, there is nowhere to run. Fortunately in this day and time, for Rapists and Sexual Predators, there is nowhere to hide either.

The Blue Lotus is the Collective Consciousness of All the Sadness and Sense of Loss from The Womb that holds the memories and stories of My Bloodline and all of My Past Lives. It is the Voice of ALL Wombs that know violation. She is Speaking because she can no longer carry the pain and it must be released. This Voice, This Song must be heard. HOW MANY OF YOU REMEMBER THE TIME WHEN DOGON SIRIUS OPENED UP FOR THE KILLER BEES AT THE CONTINENTAL CLUB BACK IN THE DAY????? END THE SILENCE END THE VIOLENCE!!! the same thing happened to me: only this time it was JOHN NICHOLSON, the best friend and college roommate of my husband/drummer at the time, MARIO VELA. John walked up to me, grabbed my breast then walked away. In front of everyone. DOODLEBUG was sitting right next to me. When I went to tell Mario, he said that John had already explained and that I was making a big deal out of nothing. WE HAD A HUGE FIGHT IN THE ALLEY?? DO YOU RECALL?????

John’s sister later contacted us and told us that John had been arrested for being a peeping tom and had actually entered one lady’s apartment. ENDING THE SILENCE. NO LONGER PROTECTING THIS BULLSHIT COWARDICE BEHAVIOR.

The Blue Lotus Speaks on June 7th, Tchiya Amet Day.

Thirteen years ago on this day, Mayor Kirk Watson was in the practice of assigning musical bands their own day. Since the name of the music project at the time,Tchiya Amet, has the same name that I do, I was given my own Day. I have never really paid attention to this fact until a few months ago.

Tchiya Amet Day
My first thought was to arrange a mini festival version of what I used to do when I lived in Austin. But Rosewood Pavilion was booked for the entire month due to Juneteenth.

It took awhile to connect with Harold McMillan, founder and director of Kenny Dorham’s Back Yard.

Synchronistically, it was while working with Harold on the Clarksville Jazz Festival (1993) that I became inspired to create and produce the Marcus Mosiah Garvey Appreciation Days (1993-1994).   Anyway, by the time I had connected with Harold, the concept of the Day had transformed into a musical day of healing, and a day of speaking about a subject that is currently in the news:

SEXUAL ASSAULT ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES.

Read a few articles here:

Task Force named at Oberlin College

Does the Ivy League Have a Sexual Assault Problem?

Memorandum — Establishing a White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault

NOT ALONE: The First Report of the White House Task Force to Protect Students From Sexual Assault

Sexual violence is more than just a crime against individuals. It threatens our families, it threatens our communities; ultimately, it threatens the entire country. It tears apart the fabric of our communities. And that’s why we’re here today — because we have the power to do something about it as a government, as a nation. We have the capacity to stop sexual assault, support those who have survived it, and bring perpetrators to justice.

President Barack Obama, January 22, 2014

(Hey I just thought of another synchronicity: President Obama and I are born one day apart: he is August 4, 1961 and I am August 5, 1961. What a difference a day makes…..)

Freedom from sexual assault is a basic human right… a nation’s decency is in large part measured by how it responds to violence against women… our daughters, our sisters, our wives, our mothers, our grandmothers have every single right to expect to be free from violence and sexual abuse.

Vice President Joe Biden, January 22, 2014

Austin Chronicle: Fighting Sexual Assault
Amid growing national momentum, UT-Austin takes steps to protect incoming students

You see, this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the 3 times that I was assaulted while a student at UT Austin. It has taken me this long to speak about it, or to take action, or to bring the incident into my musical life. Or let alone, to express it in my music. I have done a great deal of healing since it was first brought to my attention that even if it is someone that you know that slips you a mickey, it is still rape. I had basically been living with undiagnosed PTSD for 25 years until my former husband and life partner of 20 years brought this to my attention. In a flash, I instantly knew why I had been having such a difficult time in life. Anger, mood swings, depression, isolation, low self esteem, etc. You might be saying you had no idea…..

This revelation was in 2005. Shortly after that, everything began to unravel. Everything that had been built on an illusion. And many new wonderful cycles and experiences began. Flash forward 9 years to the present moment. Since I first had the inspiration to come to Austin for this Day, I knew that I wanted to start speaking out and helping others. Turn this poison into medicine. I knew that this was the next step in my healing: telling our stories helps us and it also helps others. One of the incidents involves an individual that is now a celebrity, and I continue to be triggered weekly, or even daily. When I called a hotline for guidance last week, I was instructed to never tell my story. How ironic, for the past 30 years, I have lived in fear of speaking out, and now that I am ready, I am told to remain silent. Well, I cannot. I want to see to it that with all of this talk going on about sexual assault on campus, that there are protocols for those that step forward many years later. Right now, let me tell you, there ain’t much….Come to think of it, there wasn’t much support back then either, but that is another blog entry. Or chapter.

Another synchronicity, Harold was on staff at UT when I was a grad student. He was one of the first staff members that I became acquainted with. Even when I had my first job as a waitress at Wildflowers, the Whole Foods Restaurant back in the day, he had a band that would come play music there. We even played together in the band called One Nation.

If you like my music, and/or care about this cause, or perhaps you are in need of some healing, or maybe you are interested in Cosmic Sound Healing, or for any other reason that I have yet to mention here, do come on through! Maybe simply because we haven’t seen each other in 13 years (!!), I’d love to see you….. Or, perhaps you would like to perform a song, a poem, a collaboration, or present your own healing technique, please contact me at amet13 at tchiya.com. and also 7079726831. The other reason I am doing this is because I need support, too. Even after all of these years. For more information, visit tchiya.com and cosmic.tchiya.com
